About The Position

The Specialist–Tree Care performs and leads district-wide tree care operations, including tree felling, pruning, and emergency response, while working alongside assigned staff. This position provides day-to-day supervision by assigning tasks, monitoring work quality, and ensuring compliance with District and industry safety standards. The Specialist exercises judgment in assessing tree conditions, prioritizing work orders, and coordinating equipment and resources. The role is primarily hands-on, requires physical labor, and supports safe, efficient, and well-maintained campus grounds across the District. Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Five (5) years of job-related experience
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Knowledge of safe tree care practices
  • Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills

Nice To Haves

  • ISA Certification or similar industry credentials
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all tree felling and pruning operations throughout the district
  • Provide safety training to all team members using appropriate safety gear and task procedures.
  • Supervise and guide the tree care crew ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for tree care equipment.
  • Conduct annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies and make replacement recommendations as needed.
  • Inspect, monitor and assess tree health and develop action plans as needed.
  • Adhere to all industry and District safety policies and procedures.
  • Respond to work orders issued for tree felling, pruning and concerns.
  • Assign priority to work orders and process them, including the tracking of labor and material use.
  • Responds to emergency call outs as needed
  • Support the Grounds Teams as needed.
  • Monitor and assist with all grounds work and oversee completion.
  • Monitor and assist with the collection, and disposal of leaves, dirt, rubbish and refuse from district facilities.
  • Drive District vehicle to perform assigned duties.
  • Follow all safety regulations.
  • Perform project work and special assignments as assigned
