About The Position

The Specialist, Training & Exercise Program at Auburn University is responsible for developing and delivering customized emergency preparedness training programs and coordinating response exercises to enhance the university community's readiness for emergencies and disasters. This role operates under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Emergency Management, ensuring effective emergency preparedness across the campus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of experience in emergency management or training development, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with no experience.
  • Basic knowledge of emergency preparedness principles, including NIMS and ICS.
  • Knowledge of AEDs and CPR.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience in emergency management, including planning, training, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to manage complex situations ensuring campus safety.

  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner Program (MEPP) certification.
  • FEMA Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification.

  • International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (IBSTIPI) certification.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct diverse emergency management training programs, including emergency preparedness, active shooter response, CPR, First Aid, and AED familiarization.
  • Facilitate and oversee a range of emergency response exercises, including drills, tabletop sessions, and full-scale scenarios, while coordinating after-action reviews.
  • Collaborate with university departments and external agencies to assess training needs and create tailored materials, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate the Campus Community Emergency Response Team, overseeing training and maintaining communication.
  • Promote public awareness campaigns regarding emergency preparedness within the university community.
  • Enhance emergency preparedness documentation by updating emergency operations plans based on training insights.
  • Engage in evening, night, and weekend shifts as necessary, especially during severe weather events.
  • Oversee logistical arrangements for training sessions and exercises, including venue setup and materials preparation.
  • Gather and evaluate feedback from training sessions to identify areas for improvement.
