About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting the subsurface engineering applications portfolio and associated technology infrastructure across international operations. It encompasses end-to-end application lifecycle management, service delivery oversight, and the maintenance and optimisation of subsurface cloud and computing platforms. This role will report to the Manager of Subsurface Computing and is based in Houston, Texas.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Information Sciences, or similar education or industry experience
  • 5+ years of industry related experience
  • Experience with designing or maintaining cloud services from Public cloud offerings (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Demonstrates strong teamwork and influencing skills
  • Demonstrates high levels of business acumen
  • Strong problem solving and analytics skills to address complex technical challenged effectively and as part of a dynamic and integrated team
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to high accuracy and safety standards
  • Understanding of the interactions between various interfaces and different subsurface disciplines

Nice To Haves

  • Domain expertise in Petroleum Engineering or Subsurface computing preferred
  • Experience with designing or maintaining High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for subsurface engineering applications (TNavigator, IPM suite, PVTSim, RE-Studio, Petrel Reservoir Engineering, MEPO, Matlab, PBS Pro, Python, etc.) and technical computing issues, ensuring effective collaboration and timely resolution.
  • Oversee the deployment, operation, and maintenance of subsurface engineering application portfolio and supporting infrastructure across international operations.
  • Manage subsurface application onboarding and retirement processes across the broad subsurface application portfolio
  • Drive continuous improvement and the adoption of innovative solutions while maintaining world class service standards.
  • Responsible for designing scalable, secure, and cost-effective public cloud (AWS, Azure) architectures and data integration solutions aligned with business requirements.
  • Optimise and maintain public cloud environments to ensure performance, security, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure adherence to cloud standards and best practices, including tagging strategies, cost-allocation models, and infrastructure-as-code patterns (e.g., CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform).
  • Ensure the subsurface computing platform operates with maximum uptime, resilience, and performance.
  • Manage the subsurface cloud environment by leveraging public cloud expertise to deliver fit-for-purpose, innovative, and efficient solutions.
  • Partnering with vendor and line manager to maintain the performance and reliability of the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with internal Woodside groups.
  • Manage relationships with the subsurface community to ensure alignment and effective service delivery.
  • Provide domain expertise to advise and support subsurface stakeholders.
