About The Position

The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine is seeking a flexible and dependable PRN Registration Specialist to support patient registration and front office operations across multiple clinic locations. This role is essential to ensuring a smooth patient experience from check-in to check-out, while maintaining accuracy in financial and demographic data. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Ability to learn and retain medical coding (ICD-10, CPT) preferred
  • Understanding of insurance information and clinical practices
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Flexibility to work across multiple locations
  • Minimum availability of 16 hours per month
  • Strong reliability, punctuality, and customer service orientation

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and verify pre-registration details
  • Update appointment locations in Cerner
  • Scan insurance cards and photo IDs
  • Manage and distribute necessary paperwork
  • Arrive early to prepare the clinic environment
  • Turn on lights and TVs, unlock doors, check faxes, and retrieve records/referrals
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and provide appointment cards
  • Contact patients for rescheduling as needed
  • Monitor and clear work queues
  • Respond to front office messages
  • Scan and manage medical records and documents
  • Ensure all patients are checked out
  • Tidy the waiting area, power down equipment, and secure the clinic
