About The Position

The Lead Cost Estimator is responsible for estimating labor and material costs for manufacturing and engineering projects based on Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Requests for Quote (RFQs) from prospective customers. This role requires independent reviewing of customer requirements, ensuring compliance, and developing detailed cost estimates and proposal documentation. The Lead Cost Estimator collaborates with business area personnel, proposal coordinators, engineering teams, and matrixed resources across the organization to support business acquisition and proposal development efforts. Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers, program management, and senior leadership are essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Compute cost estimates for raw materials, labor, and production based on specifications, bills of material, and sample layouts
  • Quote cost, delivery schedules, and lead times for materials and services
  • Create and maintain cost models and historical cost databases
  • Evaluate validity of historical estimates using established business rules
  • Analyze labor requirements for engineering designs and production activities
  • Independently prepare cost proposals, compliance matrices, and supporting documentation
  • Collect cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Review customer requirements and provide detailed compliance assessments
  • Interface with internal customers, engineering, program management, and senior leadership
  • Explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures across departments
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other team members as needed
  • Contribute to program and project completion with measurable impact on departmental results
  • Identify and implement enhancements to systems and processes to improve effectiveness
  • Work toward operational targets for assigned programs and projects
