About The Position

Provide leadership in the delivery of instructional programs for students with hearing differences through curriculum development, staff development, program development and evaluation, parent partnership, and model teaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Valid Texas teacher’s certification in deaf education, TASC/TASC-ASL
  • Minimum of three years’ classroom experience & itinerant services
  • Ability to work with school staff and parents

  • Valid Supervision and Principalship Certificate (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Coordinator for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Visually Impaired, and Assistive Technology in the interview process, hiring recommendations, and training of new hires.
  • Support and oversee teachers and staff through coaching and mentoring to develop instructional strategies, appropriate ARD paperwork, and lesson planning.
  • Coordinate and monitor the development and implementation of district and specialized curriculum for DHH students.
  • Serve as administrator for deaf education ARDs when needed.
  • Work to ensure a continuum of services for students with disabilities.
  • Serve as a resource to itinerant staff and campuses by observing students, modeling effective teaching strategies, developing appropriate IEPs, and attending ARDS as appropriate.
  • Support campus administrators around the unique needs of students who are DHH.
  • Conduct staff development for all teachers, paraprofessionals, and interpreters for DHH students in conjunction with the RDSPD coordinator.
  • Effectively communicate district standard operating procedures for determining eligibility and recommended placement for DHH students.
  • Work in collaboration with the Curriculum Department to support students who are DHH.
  • Assist with preparation for Program Review by Texas Education Agency.
  • Develop and implement program standards utilizing best practices to meet the needs of students who are DHH.
  • Communicate regularly with Coordinator for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Visually Impaired and Assistive Technology.
  • Facilitate RDSPD staff meetings and PLC groups.
  • Provide information to parents and local agencies pertaining to district policies and procedures for initials and potential incoming students.
  • Maintain technology and RDSPD inventories.
  • Knowledge of different communication modalities and manual communication systems used by DHH students (i.e. American Sign Language, Signed Supported English, PSE, Total communication).
  • Demonstrate effective classroom strategies and techniques for improving classroom management and students’ behavior.
  • Assist in planning and serving as an administrator during Extended School Year services for DHH students
