About The Position

The Printing Services Specialist at the National Geographic Society will oversee and optimize printing operations at the headquarters in Washington, D.C. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of print production, managing projects, and maintaining quality control. The position involves working closely with various printing equipment and coordinating with vendors to deliver high-quality print services to internal staff and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in digital printing with Canon-related equipment.
  • Experience with various printing documents such as letterhead, envelopes, flyers, brochures, and book binding using Fiery software applications.
  • Knowledge of Adobe suite, Microsoft Office suite, Imposition Wizard, and other printing-related applications.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities, with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • In-house print experience providing services to internal staff is a plus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal customers and external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all print orders, overseeing the preparation of files and execution of printing projects.
  • Manage the production, printing, and finishing of projects.
  • Operate production equipment including digital copiers, cutters/trimmers, binders, laminators, and passport photo equipment while meeting safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure convenience copiers are working properly, performing inspections, clearing paper jams, and notifying technicians of specific problems.
  • Supervise maintenance and upgrades to several pieces of complex equipment.
  • Oversee inventory management of print equipment, systems, and supplies, ensuring all print areas are fully stocked and equipment is functioning properly.
  • Keep in touch with the status and progress of work, estimating and reporting on expected completion times and making day-to-day adjustments as needed.
  • Train and coach colleagues to ensure proper printing procedures and regulations are followed.
