About The Position
The Specialist, Nutrition Services Good Food Purchasing and Inventory position at Oakland Unified School District is a critical role within the Nutrition Services department. This position is responsible for performing a variety of highly complex and specialized technical duties associated with the procurement, inventory management, and quality assurance of supplies necessary for food services. The incumbent will execute departmental product and service agreements, ensuring that all food purchases comply with the Good Food Purchasing Program requirements and federal guidelines, particularly the Buy American Provision. The role involves coordinating activities with the procurement department, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure operational efficiencies at the Central Kitchen, Warehouse, and school sites. In this position, the Specialist will utilize an automated purchase order system to facilitate the ordering of groceries, packaging materials, chemicals, equipment, and services. They will also be responsible for maintaining perpetual and periodic inventory, tracking usage, and ensuring that all food and related supplies are available for production. The Specialist will develop and maintain contracts, logs, and records related to procurement activities, and will prepare reports as needed. Additionally, they will communicate with vendors and district staff to resolve discrepancies and clarify issues related to purchase orders and deliveries. The role requires a strong understanding of procurement processes, negotiation skills, and the ability to analyze inventory records to determine purchasing needs. The Specialist will also support the office of procurement in preparing bid specifications and contracts, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This position is essential for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the Nutrition Services department, ultimately contributing to the health and well-being of the students served by the district.
