The clinical nurse educator functions in the role of expert clinician and educator. In collaboration with the nursing staff, nursing manager, nursing director, education services, Director of Nursing Standards and Practice, and physicians, monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care, staff satisfaction, patient satisfaction and patient outcomes. The clinical educator is a role model, patient advocate, change agent, leader, and cost effective practitioner. Regularly makes unit rounds to remain familiar with patients and staff within his/her assigned areas of service in order to assist and provide direction to nursing staff regarding clinical decision making and priority setting. Identifies training needs, initiates appropriate training and evaluates educational programs in collaboration with Nursing Leadership, Education, Charge Nurses, Nursing Staff, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Ensures documentation of staff orientation, unit based inservices, unit based competencies, and one to one education. Assists preceptors with documentation including documentation updated in Voyager for the Versant Residents. Utilizes evidence-based practice to plan educational interventions and in assessing current standards of practice/standards of care. Assists with the development, communication, and implementation of established standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Offers regular feedback, guidance and support to staff. Provides point of service staff education that includes one to one and unit based inservices, as needed, to address identified nursing practice needs/deficits
