About The Position

The Aerojet Rocketdyne segment of L3Harris is an industry-recognized leader in propulsion systems for space, missile defense, tactical missile and armament customers. The Canoga Park, CA site is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Senior Associate to join the engineering design team. This position will allow the successful candidate to drive innovative solutions into the development and integration of high-pressure and extreme-temperature hardware such as injectors, thrust chambers, storage tanks, manifolds, and piping. The Mechanical Engineering Senior Associate will bring strong engineering fundamentals to aid the mechanical design team in complex projects under regular supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design, development, and/or production of mechanical systems for the Aerospace and/or Defense industries.
  • Experience with liquid and gaseous pressurized systems and components such as tanks, fluid routing, sealing devices, valves, regulators, etc.
  • Knowledge of liquid-fueled propulsion systems.
  • Understanding of additive manufacturing and/or traditional manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, brazing, heat treating, etc.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5
  • Experience with CAD software tools (CREO) and PLM systems (Windchill).

Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts for mechanical systems to meet customer propulsion requirements.
  • Perform preliminary design, component sizing, and propulsion hardware packaging to meet volume and mass constraints.
  • Work mechanical solutions needed to integrate propulsion systems with vehicle and payload interfaces.
  • Create mechanical components and their higher-level systems for high-pressure and extreme-environment applications.
  • Interpret engineering models and drawings and perform tolerance studies.
  • Evaluate technical input from hardware suppliers and work with cross-functional teams on producibility improvements and cost savings.
  • Participate in trade studies and preliminary designs using Creo 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Prepare engineering drawings with associated geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Participate in team meetings to assure design content for new or modified engineering designs.
  • Release drawings through Windchill PLM system.
  • Contribute to technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Assist in preparing engineering reports to support tolerance studies, engineering analyses, failure investigations, and/or technical close-out reports.
  • May participate in engineering review boards to support program-level technical decision making.
  • Participate in development and qualification testing for new product development.
  • Create test integration hardware to support flow testing, vibration testing and hot-fire testing.
  • May support hands-on work during test preparation.
  • May participate with data reduction.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and quality engineering to ensure hardware is producible and inspectable.
  • Must be able to obtain US Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Canoga Park, CA.
