About The Position

The Labor and Employee Rights Specialist is responsible for providing support for grievances, work-related compliance, and labor association support. In addition, the specialist prepares legal documentation and files as requested, as well as provides answers to general questions about the work of the office, status of grievances, ADA, and other investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field.
  • Two (2) years of HR or related work experience required.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Support in providing effective case management of complex labor and employee rights issues including identifying, brainstorming, and analyzing logical resolutions.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data to generate various statistical reports as requested from the Office of the General Counsel, EEOC (ADA Claims), and the Superintendent.
  • Determines the amount of information and documentation submitted to outside agencies in response to inquiries and freedom of information requests.
  • Acts as the District’s representative in telephone hearings with the Tennessee Department of Labor regarding unemployment claims
  • Research and conduct background checks for employees through court records, social media, internet, and newspaper articles. Compile court records and affidavits as needed.
  • Assist with labor management meetings providing notes and summaries for all the Office of Labor and Employee Rights
  • Advises principals, supervisors, and employees on potential breaches in board policies
  • Other duties as assigned and/or directed.
