Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country. The Laboratory Technical Specialist will oversee the technical work within the AHC to ensure quality and acceptability of tests results across the regional laboratory sites. Ensures complete accurate laboratory record keeping regarding training, competency, quality control, quality assurance, instrument function checks, maintenance, reagents, validation, and correlation. Writes, reviews, and updates laboratory policies and procedures. Assists with validation and correlations, as needed. Ensures laboratory CAP regulation compliance and inspection readiness by assembling required evidence of compliance for the laboratory. Collects and analyzes data and prepares a variety of special and recurring analyses and reports, as needed. Develops training protocols, and documents, and ensures completion of training of all team members through train the trainer deployment. Works directly with team members to correct compliance concerns. Provides Lab Supervisor(s) information and feedback regarding team member performance on compliance issues. Attends system committee meetings and communicates action items, as needed, to regional lab leaders and team members. Works with other technical specialists to create regional and system solutions. Manages regional and system projects related to the technical and regulatory compliance functions within the laboratory. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate publications and communication/interaction with subject matter experts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in medical technology, chemical, physical or biological science is required.
  • Qualification as CLIA Technical Consultant (TC) and Technical Supervisor (TS) is required.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in high complexity laboratory testing is required.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in moderate complexity testing is required.
  • Appropriate certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA or equivalent certification is required.
  • Extensive knowledge about computers and use of various software programs is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of standard operating procedures and testing techniques is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations is required.
