About The Position

X-energy is seeking experienced professionals to join our Plant Training team in the role of Specialist V, Extended Reality. This role is responsible for assigned functions in the development, testing, and lifecycle management of augmented, virtual, and mixed reality hardware and software. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality extended reality (XR) solutions that enhance student learning and operational efficiency within the organization, using Unity as the primary development engine and an OpenXR-compliant platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field. In lieu of degree, at least 2 years of related work experience.
  • Typically, fifteen years of experience in a relevant role required.
  • Expert level knowledge of extended reality.
  • Knowledge of development through the Unity game engine and OpenXR.
  • Knowledge of extended reality development and implementation best practices.
  • Level III: Typically, five years of general experience.
  • Level IV: Typically, ten years of general experience.
  • Level V: Typically, fifteen years of general experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities without close supervision and extensive latitude for independent judgment.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior team members.
  • Shares knowledge related to industry best practices and standards with others across the department/division.
  • Develop XR environments, test scenarios, and integrate into hardware.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to turn technical information into effective training materials.
  • Improve XR products through feedback.
  • Contribute to documentation including user manuals, technical specifications, and testing protocols.
  • Keep accurate records according to the rules of regulators, the organization, suppliers, and clients.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in extended reality.
  • Design, implement, and maintain XR applications and systems using Unity and OpenXR.
  • Conduct thorough testing of XR hardware and software to ensure functionality, performance, and reliability, including multiplayer environments and various peripherals.
  • Oversee the complete lifecycle of XR products, including updates, upgrades, and decommissioning.
  • Integrate and optimize various XR hardware components such as omnidirectional treadmills, haptic gloves, and other peripherals to ensure seamless operation within the XR environment.
  • Develop and implement intuitive user interfaces and user experiences tailored for XR applications, ensuring ease of use and engagement for end users.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
