About The Position

CNC Applications Specialist for the CNC Machining area of the Engine Engineering department. Responsible for programming and metal cutting activities in an automotive manufacturing environment. Perform engineering duties to maintaining quality, safety and productivity. Positions utilizes proficiency in reading detail prints, understanding geometric dimensioning & tolerancing, experience with custom tooling, and experience with part fixturing. Ability to use measuring tools, such as indicators and other measuring devices, as well as familiarity with machine functions and machine geometry checking. Working knowledge and ability to optimize NC programs for cycle time, develop and improve cutter path programs, and facilitate quality checks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Technical Discipline or equivalent preferred
  • 0 – 10 years job related experience preferred
  • 5 years’ experience in CNC manufacturing environment serving in a CNC programming role

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with CNC machine programming, high volume flexible machining environments, cutting tools, measuring tools (gauging), and part holding fixtures.
  • Experience with machine setup, tooling, programming CNC lathes, machining center, OD grinders, and drilling machines.
  • Monitor and interpret part prints, tool layouts, quality data, and make dimensional adjustments (offsets) when needed.
  • Provide technical direction and assistance to identify and troubleshoot problems; propose counter measures/solutions; and resolve issues.
  • Develop and organize information related to departmental activities.
  • Apply statistical methods to analyze and control equipment performance.
  • Coordinate and provide technical training and advise other Team Members as needed.
  • Support and/or lead continuous improvement activities. Support project work.
  • Develop, write, and produce technical presentations.
  • Mentor colleagues and others as needed or required.
  • Communicate and interact with all levels of the organization to facilitate actions and drive improvements.
  • Work within budgets. Purchase spare parts or service support when needed. Control costs within established budgets.
  • Administer, coordinate, and comply with all Business Management System (BMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements. Team Member may be required to handle hazardous wastes which may include identifying, inspecting, packaging, labelling, and moving waste in compliance with RCRA regulations. Relevant training will be provided if assigned these job duties.
