About The Position

The EHS Specialist provides strategic and operational support to business partners of the various departments at Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk in pursuit of continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs and the growth of a business-wide safety culture. The EHS Specialist leverages technology and data-driven insights to enhance performance, conducts incident investigations and recommends corrective actions, performs risk assessments and provides training, and partners with teams to implement preventive action plans. Through collaboration and leadership, this role drives continuous improvement and ensures a safe, sustainable, and compliant workplace aligned with company goals and values.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in Environmental, Health & Safety or Occupational Health and Safety; experience in high-volume or complex operations strongly preferred.
  • Work Schedule: Flexibility to work varied schedules in support of a 24/7, year-round operation.
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret regulatory requirements, technical standards, and industry best practices; proficiency in using management systems (i.e., Benchmark, Intelex, SharePoint) to analyze data and apply insights to improve safety performance.
  • Written Communication: Strong ability to prepare reports, procedures, and business correspondence with clarity and accuracy.
  • Presentation & Facilitation: Ability to deliver clear, engaging presentations and facilitate interactive safety training sessions for diverse audiences, including leadership teams and frontline employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Background: Experience in entertainment, hospitality, or theme park environments highly desired.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH, OHST (or equivalent) preferred; ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 auditor credentials a plus.
  • Technology Skills: Familiarity with EHS management systems, digital reporting tools, and data analytics platforms preferred.
  • Sustainability Knowledge: Understanding of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and mitigate EHS risks – Conduct proactive risk assessments using data-driven tools and recommend preventive and corrective measures in collaboration with the EHS team and operational leadership.
  • Effective Safety Communication – Maintain transparent and timely communication with management, team members and peers regarding EHS program implementation, hazard identification, trends and progress against goals. Utilize digital dashboards, reports, and safety postings to enhance engagement.
  • Lead Incident Response and Investigations: Take the lead during investigations of incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, partnering with team members and area management to identify root causes and put achievable and sustainable corrective actions in place. Fill the role of safety officer during large-scale incident response.
  • Ensure compliance and continuous improvement – Drive completion of inspections and training.
  • Champion Change Management – Anticipate and review operational changes to identify new EHS impacts and implement risk-reduction and compliance strategies.
  • Facilitate Training & Engagement - Deliver engaging safety training sessions on a variety of EHS topics, leveraging technology and interactive methods to build a strong safety culture
  • Respond to Safety Concerns: Act promptly on issues reported through the Safety Hotline or concern reporting systems, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
  • Lead Safety Committees and Projects: Drive cross-functional working groups and special projects focused on hazard control, emerging risks, and continuous improvement initiatives
