About The Position

The Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Generalist works with site EH&S and Operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. You will support Collins Aerospace standards and the implementation and oversight for high-risk control programs in a complex manufacturing environment. The EH&S Generalist is an essential role on-site in Miramar, FL.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Manufacturing work setting experience

Responsibilities

  • Solid understanding of legal compliance with applicable EH&S regulations, laws, rules, and RTX requirements.
  • Provides advice, support, and technical guidance regarding environmental and safety opportunities.
  • Maintains awareness of changing regulations, ensuring the company’s Environment, Health and Safety policies and training are aligned with current laws and industry standards.
  • Acts as a partner in EH&S by formulating and administering EH&S plans and procedures including EH&S Program Management.
  • Participates in as well as lead incidents response, investigation, and reporting activities.
  • Assists with accident investigation/reporting and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Assists in the identification of EHS hazards, perform risk assessments and development of mitigation strategies.
  • Conducts EH&S inspections and analyzes audit findings to develop corrective actions and achieve and maintain safe work practices.
  • Supports management of applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as company policies and procedures (Applicable safety programs include LOTO, electrical safety, machine guarding, elevated work, confined space, industrial hygiene, risk assessment, respiratory protection).
  • Oversight of environmental programs which include RCRA waste management for LGQ site, SPCC/SWPP, EPCRA Tier II reporting, and Storm Water management, and environmental sustainability programs.
  • Performs visual inspection to ensure proper functioning on waste equipment.
  • Delivers barrels of fuels and solvents as required to service areas.
  • Locates and confines spills and accidents, documents and properly labels waste containers for disposal.
  • Determines proper method to pump, contain, and move hazardous wastes to proper storage areas.
  • Conduct RCRA and SAA inspections as defined by regulatory requirements.
  • Remove full drums to LT-90 area and replace barrels as requested.
  • Help facilitate and prepare drums for waste pick-ups.
  • Help manage expired chemicals and ensure proper disposal.
  • Help facilitate and lab packs.
  • Executes procedures for dealing with hazardous wastes (e.g. storage, moving, disposing, mixing, cleaning up of spills, etc.).
  • Understands the difference between various coolants, cutting oils, lubricants, etc., and their applications.
  • Operates barrel-lifting machines, barrel trucking equipment, fork truck equipment, and drum carts in a safe manner.
  • Understands physical plant layout and knows where various departments within the facilities are located.
  • Understands chemical reactions and safety requirements.
  • Knows EPA requirements for storing, dumping, handling, and/or reporting of chemicals.
  • Works closely with EHS Manager, site leadership and all employees to ensure a team approach is used to effectively operationalize EH&S activities.
  • Works on cross-functional projects that interface with other groups, external to and within the core EH&S team
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and project.
  • Comfortable working in fast paced manufacturing setting and CI environment.
  • Assists with improvement and maintenance of EH&S documentation and EH&S (Software) systems.
