Assists the principal in the management of student behavior.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
One (1) year exemplary teaching experience or related experience required.
Demonstrated skills and the ability to participate as an effective, contributing member of a school team.
Excellent communication and human relations skills to relate effectively with challenging students, parents and professional colleagues.
Knowledge of strategies and techniques for de-escalating verbally aggressive students.
Experience working with a diverse student/community population.
Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
Responsibilities
Helps develop, implement and maintain a school-wide discipline plan.
Provides staff development to staff members on effective classroom management/behavior intervention strategies.
Provides training on behavior management to parents and students.
Observes students in their classrooms and other activities to gain a better understanding of the students and their behavior.
Counsels students individually or in small groups on positive behavior techniques.
Consults with school staff members to develop appropriate behavior intervention plans for individual students.
Facilitates conferences with students, parents and staff in matters related to student behavior.
Monitors student behavior data and prepare necessary reports.
Serves on school teams as determined by the school principal.
Keep current on effective behavior management programs and strategies.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
