About The Position

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to complete our leadership team for the Special Testing Laboratory (STL) in Gainesville, FL. We are looking for a leader first and foremost-someone with outstanding communication skills and a genuine passion for mentoring and developing a dedicated team. Your primary role will be to foster a supportive, collaborative, and high-performing environment. While direct experience in our specialized labs is a strong plus, we are excited to invest in and train the right candidate who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and the motivation to master the technical aspects of our work.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science.
  • Current Florida supervisor license in relevant specialty areas (Generalist), or eligibility to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
  • National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist Generalist (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent). Must have MB (ASCP) within one year of hire.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to meet LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements.
  • A minimum of five years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience (advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of some experience).
  • Demonstrated strength in leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong passion for learning new skills and the cognitive ability to master complex technical processes.
  • Knowledge of laboratory processes, quality systems, and state/federal regulations.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, mentorship, and guidance to Medical Laboratory Scientists.
  • Be consistently accessible to your team for on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation.
  • Develop plans for staffing, scheduling, and training for laboratory personnel.
  • Evaluate and ensure team member competency.
  • Perform the duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist as needed.
  • Monitor all testing and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Oversee preanalytical, analytical, and result reporting procedures.
  • Research, validate, and support the implementation of new instruments and assays.
  • Periodically update policy and procedure manuals to meet internal and external regulations.
  • Assist with quality audits to ensure the lab operates according to all state, federal, and accrediting standards.
