About The Position

Special Services Director The Special Services Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and oversight of special education and related services programs for students with disabilities. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving high-quality, equitable instructional practices that support student achievement and growth. The Director oversees IEP development and implementation, supervises special education staff, and collaborates with school leaders, families, and external partners to ensure that all students receive appropriate, individualized support. The role requires strong leadership, data-driven decision-making, and a commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive practices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable goals and program improvements
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including low- to moderate-income communities
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and external partners
  • Ability to establish and maintain comprehensive record-keeping and compliance systems
  • Deep understanding of special education instructional strategies, accommodations, and curriculum modifications
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity, including coaching and developing staff
  • Ability to remain flexible, solutions-oriented, and composed in high-demand environments
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Valid PA certification in Special Education required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred
  • Administrative or Supervisory Certification preferred (or eligibility to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of special education programs, ensuring compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and district policies
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate special education teachers and related service providers
  • Ensure the development, implementation, and monitoring of high-quality IEPs and related services
  • Analyze student data to drive instructional decisions, set measurable goals, and improve student outcomes
  • Develop and implement systems for progress monitoring, documentation, and reporting
  • Collaborate with school leaders, general education staff, and intervention teams to support inclusive practices and curriculum access
  • Partner with families and community stakeholders to ensure clear communication and strong engagement
  • Manage caseload distribution, staffing, and service delivery models to meet student needs efficiently
  • Oversee compliance-related documentation, audits, and record-keeping systems with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Support the development of students' independence, self-advocacy, and personal growth skills
  • Lead professional development and provide ongoing coaching to staff to strengthen instructional practices
  • Ensure effective use of instructional technology and data systems across special education programs
  • Maintain a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement
  • Participate in school events, meetings, and required travel as needed
