The primary owner of Winsted Special Processes, including heat treat, welding, EDM, airflow, and shot peen, is responsible for ensuring conformance to customer requirements. This role involves maintaining up-to-date accreditation with PW, AMS, BSI, and GE NADCAP. The position requires the development of processes for all Special Processes to meet customer specifications and compliance with NADCAP Certification requirements. The owner will approve new and revised instructions in the Special Process areas and will be responsible for determining the root cause of any deviations from critical process specifications, providing technical support to Process Engineering to resolve related issues. Additionally, the owner will report the critical process status on a daily and monthly basis to the Heat Treat Business Unit Process Owner and will need to understand downstream product quality as it relates to Special Processes.

  • Develop processes for all Special Processes (heat treat, welding, EDM, airflow, and shot peen) to conform to customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with methods, materials, and equipment specifications for NADCAP Certification as detailed in the BU manual and customer requirements.
  • Approve all new and revised instructions in the Special Process areas.
  • Determine the root cause of any deviation from critical process specifications and provide technical support to resolve related issues.
  • Report critical process status on a daily and monthly basis to the Heat Treat Business Unit Process Owner.
  • Understand downstream product quality as it relates to Special Processes and react appropriately to observed conditions.
  • Institute proper project monitoring, follow-up, and feedback systems to ensure financial and contract targets are met (yields, rework).
  • Foster continuous improvement utilizing process management designed experiments, IPM, SPC, and Cpk.
  • Provide technical guidance to management and peers in areas of current or potential needs of the plant as a recognized expert in Heat Treat process technology.
  • Review processes for adherence to established techniques and ensure repeatability of approved processes.
  • Evaluate and document process changes, obtaining customer or engineering approval when required.
  • Determine root cause and corrective action for any deviation from critical process specifications and disposition of product.
  • Work with facilities and finance departments to plan and execute projects, including capital improvements.
  • Educate operators about the process and proper procedures, including creating/revising work instructions and training materials.
  • 5 plus years experience as a Heat Treat Process owner.
  • BS in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Electrical, Mechanical, Ceramic, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems, PLC, vacuum heat treat furnaces.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment and have good organization skills.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis and SPC.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Howmet Process Management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
