About The Position

The Special Process Engineer is responsible for oversight of manufacturing special processes to include welding, soldering, and efforts associated with facility expansion and special equipment installation. The role works closely with a cross-functional team and interacts with customers, contractors, and suppliers in a challenging technical environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering. A combination of education, experience, and specialized / military training will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ years of welding experience, 5+ years of experience inspecting welds for quality.
  • 5+ years of experience with technical facility expansions, specialized equipment installation, and interfacing with support contractors.
  • AutoCAD (preferred, not required)
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote etc.)
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification (preferred, not required)
  • Certified Weld Inspector certification (preferred, not required)
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude
  • Creative problem solving
  • Technical writing and communication
  • Ladder Logic (RS Logix 5000/500) (preferred, not required)
  • Limited travel required, typically less than 10%

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of weld schedules to support production.
  • Provide oversight for weld-qualified and soldering personnel in a unique manufacturing facility and possess knowledge and experience to inspect & certify for quality.
  • Develop and review Operating Instructions (OIs), Manufacturing Equipment Engineering Instructions (MEEIs) and process Flow Tags (FTs) to clearly and accurately document manufacturing processes.
  • Support product Non-Conformance (NC) council, provide dispositions and initiate Corrective Actions (CARs).
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance and establish preventative maintenance procedures on production equipment such as hydraulic presses, vacuum ovens, and welding equipment.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to resolve concerns.
  • Apply manufacturing process knowledge such as Lean, 5S, and Progress Control to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support internal / external audits and customer technical interchanges.
  • Participate in writing equipment specifications, equipment selection, and support equipment qualifications.
  • Create and maintain specified metrics to support production.
