About The Position

The Special Procedures Technologist demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the radiographic / digital imaging equipment and table positioning as appropriate for safe patient care. This role involves assisting physicians as scrub/circulator for Interventional Radiology procedures, including but not limited to arteriograms for cerebral, renal, mesenteric, pelvic and extremity circulation, possible angioplasty/stent placement/thrombolytic therapy/embolization, percutaneous gastrostomy tube procedures, percutaneous nephrostomy and urologic stenting procedures, venous access procedures, venography of the extremities, inferior and superior vena cava, possible angioplasty/stent placement/filter placement/thrombolytic therapy, percutaneous cholangiogram, possible balloon dilation/stent placement/drainage catheter placement/stone extraction, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, and endovascular repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The technologist is expected to adapt to new technologies and protocols.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved RCIS, RCES or Diagnostic Radiology Program.
  • FL Radiology License.
  • ARRT Certification in CV, CI or VI.
  • Able to perform and scrub on all IVR procedures.
  • Able to work flexible weekday hours and do on-call weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the radiographic / digital imaging equipment and table positioning as appropriate for safe patient care.
  • Assists physicians as scrub/circulator for Interventional Radiology procedures.
  • Acquires images and sends images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Understands Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding and entry of procedural charges in electronic medical record.
  • Communicates verbally and in written form clearly and effectively with other members of the team.
  • Transports patients to and from procedural area, admitting and recovery area, and other areas within the hospital as needed.
  • Assists with patient transfer to and from procedure table and stretcher.
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing communication with the physician operator throughout procedures to facilitate patient safety, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn new procedures.
