We are seeking a Special Procedures Technologist for our team to ensure that we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care. The Special Procedures/Interventional Technologist assists the Radiologists with interventional imaging cases. They will independently perform ordered imaging procedures specific to Radiology and related techniques, producing diagnostic images for interpretation. Special Procedures/Interventional Technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. They must maintain a high degree of accuracy in patient positioning and imaging technique, and knowledge of radiation protection and safety. The role serves the following age groups on a routine basis: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • (ARRT-R) Radiography certification.
  • Current Certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Experience in Vascular Interventionist (VI), Cardiovascular Vascular Tech (CVT), or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) with past experience in completing diagnostic cardiac and/or radiology procedures.
  • (RT) Radiologic Technologist/Radiographer with one year of experience in special/interventional procedures preferred.
  • Associate Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Performs physician ordered diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures.
  • Confirms, clarifies and verifies the physician written or verbal order prior to implementing the imaging procedure.
  • Performs and confirms proper patient identification prior to performing the patient procedure.
  • Corroborates patients clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available.
  • Appropriately documents findings relevant to the imaging procedures in Technologist Notes.
  • Prepares the patient for imaging procedures, providing education and instructions to obtain desired results, gaining cooperation, and minimizing the patient's anxiety.
  • Appropriately operates imaging equipment, and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Identifies, prepares and/or administers appropriate contrast media as determined by the procedure ordered.
  • Starts and maintains intravenous (IV) access per orders when applicable to the imaging procedure.
  • Determines appropriate imaging technique/exposure factors.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Applies principles of ALARA and radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Implements appropriate infection control and standard precautions.
  • Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of imaging procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the patient's PHI in accordance with the HIPPA.
  • Verifies informed consent is obtained for interventional procedures.
  • Assists Radiologist with specialized interventional imaging procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Initiates basic life support, or other emergency actions when necessary.
  • Provides practical instruction and supervision for students and/or other health care professionals.
  • Participates in the department and Hospital's quality control, quality assessment and improvement plans.
  • Ensures procedures are correctly billed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains supplies for the assigned area(s), ensuring proper use, inventory levels are appropriate and supplies are current.
  • Knowledgeable of computer hardware/software programs used to perform job duties.
  • Participates in continuing education to maintain and enhance competency and performance.
  • Ensures professional credentials and certification(s) related to clinical practice are current at all times.
  • Completes annual Radiation Safety Training two weeks prior to evaluation date.
  • Takes responsibility for professional decisions made and actions taken.
