About The Position

Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship hospital of Atrium Health, distinguished throughout the Southeast for its excellent patient care and medical expertise. From its modest beginnings in 1943, CMC evolved into the largest hospital in the region and a world-class facility that offers a full range of services to the Charlotte community and beyond, with more than 1,100 physicians and providers specializing in all areas of medicine. CMC serves as the region's only Level 1 trauma center and is an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver. We are also one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians in 15 specialties and serving as a regional campus for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The function of the Interventional Radiology Technologist is to assist in the various invasive Angio, and interventional procedures performed in the Interventional Radiology Suite. Responsible for surgical scrub and circulation duties, performing total patient care during and post the procedure, while the patient is in the Interventional Radiology area.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic Technology.
  • Completion of an accredited Radiology Interventional Program required or an ARRT/RCIS graduate from a Cardiovascular Interventional Training Program.
  • Registered and certified by the ARRT or RCIS required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Must meet all required elements of competency checklist for level.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year in diagnostic and 1 year in Interventional Radiology preferred.
  • ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized radiography and fluoroscopic coverage of interventional and angiographic procedures under the direction of a physician.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and preps the patient for the procedure.
  • Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
  • Circulates during the procedure and maintains responsibility for patient comfort.
  • Provides supplies necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures.
  • Removes catheters/sheaths and applies direct pressure or clamp as appropriate.
  • Provides necessary report information to the holding area or nursing unit as needed.
  • Records and processes hemodynamic reports, contrast media records and charges promptly and accurately.
  • Communicates equipment malfunctions to leadership or department engineer for repairs.
