About The Position

The Special Procedures Technologist prepares patients for procedures and explains the process, operates diagnostic equipment and cardiac catheterization tools, and assists physicians in performing special radiology angiographic and interventional procedures to support cardiac and vascular care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT)
  • Minimum 2 years Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology scrubbing and hemodynamic monitoring experience
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, decisive judgment, collaboration, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • NJ Certified X-Ray Technologist (NJ CXT)
  • National registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
  • EKG Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of procedure protocols including prep, positioning, markers, safety & shielding techniques, processing, and image labeling
  • Operates fluoroscopy equipment and maintains quality control
  • Calibrates, maintains, adjusts, and operates equipment, computer, and applications necessary to ensure a safe and accurate diagnostic and therapeutic procedure
  • Reports equipment failure or other problem to the appropriate support
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of angiographic and interventional procedures
  • Assist physicians during angiographic and interventional procedures; to include scrubbing, circulating, or monitoring. Include but not limited to setting up sterile trays and other equipment following aseptic technique, handling of instruments, operating and monitoring equipment, calling out equipment readings, positioning patients for rapid sequence filming during contrast media administration, scrub to assist with passage of catheters/guidewires; alerting physician to changes in patient condition.
  • Utilizes ICVS and PACS systems and enters accurately identified and labeled images of patients
  • Retrieve old images and films, when necessary
  • Demonstrates ability to work in close cooperation with members of a team of physicians, nurses, and other technical staff in an invasive and/or surgical environment
  • Demonstrates flexibility, tact, and ability to perform both independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to assume multi-task duties and function under significant time pressures
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein
