About The Position

Join UChicago Medicine, as a PRN Special Procedures Nurse (SPN). In this role, you will support the Infusion Therapy Clinic in Hyde Park. Under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, RN provides technically complex and high risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories: sedation, intravenous infusions, complex procedures, e.g., lumbar puncture, cardiac catherization; This may also include specialized monitoring during procedure and recovery phase; The RN may have Charge Nurse responsibility for his/her assigned unit.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card.
  • Chemotherapy experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a research environment.

  • Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians.
  • Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment.
  • Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies.
  • Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner.
  • Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC.
  • Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios.
  • Utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC.
  • Evaluates and treats pain in a prompt, caring fashion and reassesses after each intervention.
  • Maintains hospital required nursing & ICU unit specific competencies needed to provide proficient nursing care.
  • Contributes to the Patient Services Sector/Outpatient Services Sector offering constructive suggestions for change.
  • Uses nursing knowledge to anticipate and plan for patient care needs.
