About The Position

Special Police Sergeants patrol and monitor organization buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and other illegal activities and possess arrest powers while on duty; provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees; provides public relation activities; sets up, maintains and troubleshoots access control and video systems for the organization; plans and implements officer training certifications and programs. The duties of a Special Police Sergeant, include, but are not limited to, the qualification and the potential use of firearms. The starting annual salary for this position is $58,159 and this can include a comprehensive benefits package.

Requirements

  • Valid New York State driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of appointment
  • Certification or the ability to obtain certification as a New York State Peace Officer within one (1) year of appointment
  • Current Pistol Permit or the ability to submit an application for a New York State Pistol Permit within sixty (60) days of appointment
  • Certification or the ability to obtain certification as a New York State, Department of Criminal Justice Services, General Topics Instructor- Police/Peace within two (2) years of appointment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a related field; or
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a related field and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in a law enforcement or security organization, exposed to functions similar to those at Roswell Park; or
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience in a law enforcement or security organization, exposed to functions similar to those at Roswell Park.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must pass drug test(s) and the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA)
  • Must pass a psychological evaluation
  • Incumbents must maintain certification as a New York State Peace Officer as a condition of continued employment.
  • Incumbents must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary firearms permit(s) in accordance with organization policies and legal statutes as a condition of continued employment.
  • Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
