The Paraeducator - Special Needs position involves providing support to students with special education needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Responsibilities include assisting with individual medical and personal needs, reinforcing learning concepts, adapting classroom activities, collaborating on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and monitoring student activities. The role supports various specialized assistance programs and requires effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Guide students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments and personal interactions.
  • Monitor and adhere to students' daily schedules and behavior plans.
  • Administer tests, homework assignments, and make-up work to support the teacher.
  • Adapt classroom activities and materials under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Model appropriate social behavior and develop students' daily living and behavioral skills.
  • Support individual medical and personal needs of students as instructed by healthcare professionals.
  • Confer with certified teacher to assist in evaluating student progress and recordkeeping.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement and meet IEP objectives.
  • Monitor and supervise students in various settings.
  • Assist in making copies and maintaining classroom materials.
  • Respond to emergency situations for immediate safety concerns.
  • Attend meetings and in-service training as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required, but experience working with school-age children preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special needs preferred.
  • Experience working in a healthcare field preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • First Aid certification preferred.
  • Training on delegated healthcare procedures required within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Bilingual language skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development stages preferred.
  • Hourly pay of $15.20, spread out over 12 months.
