About The Position

The Town of Burlington is seeking an individual to perform skilled manual work related to the operation of heavy and specialized public works equipment, under the direction of the Superintendent of the Highway Division. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Assists in a variety of public works projects such as maintaining and repairing streets; install, clean and repair culverts, catch basins and drainage lines; sweep streets and sidewalks, repair guardrails and signs Operates specialized and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, basin cleaners and street sweepers; performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment; services and maintains equipment Operates snow removal and sanding vehicles, assists in emergency highway and other public works repairs; performs laborers duties when not assigned to equipment operation Operate hand tools, mowers, jack hammers, air compressors, clippers, cutting tools and related equipment Loads and unloads trucks, pick-up and haul materials Subject to emergency calls Minimum qualifications include Must possess a CDL Class B License Must either possess or obtain a Hoisting License 1B, 2A, 4E and 4G within 90 days of employment Applicants without the necessary CDL and Hoisting Licenses may be considered under certain conditions. Must have the ability to operate trucks with a rated capacity of more than three tons, up to nine tons Ability to operate hoisting equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders and catch basin machines, 125 CFM compressors, sidewalk rollers highway sanders and similar equipment used in Public Works construction and maintenance Must be available for emergency snow removal and able to plow and sand roads This is a full time union position, 40 hours per week, within the Department of Public Works bargaining unit. Salary is within Group 86 of the DPW contract. Starting salary is $30.82/hour. Requirements

  • Must possess a CDL Class B License
  • Must either possess or obtain a Hoisting License 1B, 2A, 4E and 4G within 90 days of employment
  • Applicants without the necessary CDL and Hoisting Licenses may be considered under certain conditions.
