The Special Education Vocational/Transition Coordinator Long Term Substitute position is designed to instruct and assist students eligible for Special Education services in developing vocational skills and facilitating the post-high school planning and transition process. This role is a long-term substitute assignment from approximately September 8, 2025, through December 9, 2025, and is exempt under FLSA regulations. The position reports to the Special Education Department Chair and supervises classroom students and teacher aides when applicable, located at either Deerfield High School or Highland Park High School.

  • Embrace and implement by instruction and action the District's Beliefs and Guiding Principles.
  • Implement all District 113 Board of Education Policies and Procedures to support student and staff safety, growth, and learning.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the time assigned.
  • Develop and implement a vocational and transition curriculum that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Provide guidance and leadership in vocational assessment, transition plan development, and post-high school educational/training programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with multiple worksites in the high school and community.
  • Supervise and evaluate student workers, teacher assistants, and job coaches.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Communicate pertinent information and support students in the post-high school transition planning process.
  • Develop relationships and share information regarding post-high school community and funding resources.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Represent School District #113 on committees related to vocational and transition services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
  • Work positively with students and adults.
  • Build and maintain relationships with colleagues to support a cooperative work environment.
  • Handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive District information.
  • Set goals and establish methods for achieving these goals.
  • Work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Take attendance, complete grade and progress reports, and other reports as required.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Professional Educator License, Registered in Lake County ROE.
  • Vocational Specialist and/or Transition Specialist certification.
  • LBS1 endorsement required; LBS2 endorsement preferred.
  • Long Term Substitute Rate: $280.00/Day
