About The Position

Special Education Teacher - Full-time Location: New York, NY Job Description Instructional Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student. Design and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that accommodate various learning styles and abilities. Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to support student learning and progress. Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed. Prepare detailed progress reports and maintain accurate records of student performance. Participate in IEP meetings, providing insights and recommendations based on assessments. Classroom Management: Create a positive and structured classroom environment that fosters student engagement and success. Implement effective behavior management strategies to support positive student behavior. Establish and maintain clear expectations, routines, and procedures. Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and any concerns. Participate in team meetings, providing valuable insights and recommendations for student support. Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in special education through ongoing professional development. Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions as required. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues to enhance the overall effectiveness of the special education program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, preferably in a middle or high school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
