About The Position

Lumpkin County Schools is now accepting applications for a special education teacher. The teacher will be expected to provide special education services to students with disabilities in various settings and through various service models. SPECIAL EDUCATION ADAPTED CURRICULUM (P-12) SPECIAL EDUCATION GENERAL CURRICULUM (P-12) Responsible for planning and delivering tailored instruction that addresses communication, behavioral, social, life skills, and academic goals for students with disabilities, with a focus on those on the Autism spectrum. The role also oversees program success by managing paraprofessionals, implementing and updating IEPs, and communicating effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Develop and execute individual education plans (IEPs) for each student assigned to you.
  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment, utilizing effective and evidence-based approaches to meet the unique needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and students when appropriate about progress
  • Develop lesson plans appropriate for an individual student.
  • Collaborate with district staff, district behavior specialist, and other appropriate staff members on the program and instruction for individual students.
  • Assists willingly in the maintenance of student safety if the student engages in unsafe behaviors.
  • Directs and assists willingly in hygiene maintenance/toileting of students as needed.
