About The Position

2026-2027 Anticipated Openings: Middle School (6-8) Special Education Teacher (2026-2027) Candidates will need to apply to this posting to be considered. Teachers will be offered contracts for the 2026-2027 school year with building assignments to be determined. See below for the interview and hiring timeline. Estimated timelines: Posting - 12/2/25 - 1/5/2026 Preliminary interviews - January 8-12, 2026 In person interviews -Week of January 19 - 23, 2026 Successful candidates will be notified by HR and will be scheduled for preliminary interviews on or around January 8, 2025. December 2025 and May 2026 graduates are encouraged to apply, as well as practicing teachers who have not signed teaching contracts for the 2026-2027 school year.

Requirements

• Valid State of Iowa teaching license, required.
• Instructional Strategist I, Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD or ID, or willingness to obtain
• Understands function of behavior and ability to implement behavior intervention plans.
• Willingness to pursue additional special education licensure based on building and student need.

Nice To Haves

• Previous classroom teaching experience, preferred.
• Applicants with coaching or sponsorship experience encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Experience writing and implementing Individual Education Plans and corresponding Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the continuum of skills needed in community and independent living.
• Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and be able to apply that understanding to a team situation.
• Understand and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, highlighted by a commitment to: differentiating instruction for learners, meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
• Understand and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction.
• Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan.
• Articulate oral and written communications.
• Maintain accurate and timely grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work.
• Participate in professional development.
