The Special Education Teacher's goal is to teach students in a manner that they can apply the knowledge and skills required for College and Career Readiness in accordance with the Mississippi Framework and Common Core Curriculum. The role involves developing and implementing curriculum plans, preparing lessons with accommodations for individual differences, presenting subject matter according to MDE and district guidelines, and using appropriate instructional strategies and materials. The teacher will assess student learning styles, cooperate with other special education teachers to modify curricula, and work with staff to implement instructional goals. The position also includes supervising teacher aides/volunteers, using technology, assisting students with study habits, and consistently assessing student achievement. The teacher is expected to instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter, present a positive role model, create a conducive classroom environment, manage student behavior, and protect students and facilities. Additionally, the teacher will assist in selecting instructional materials, evaluate student growth, maintain communication with parents, identify student needs, and participate in professional development and school activities.
