About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher at Peterson Elementary School, encompassing responsibilities across planning and preparation, classroom environment management, instruction delivery, and professional conduct. Key duties include demonstrating knowledge of content, pedagogy, and student development (including special needs), setting instructional outcomes, designing coherent instruction and assessments, and fostering a positive learning culture. The role also involves managing classroom procedures, student behavior, and physical space, as well as effective communication with students and families. Specific to special education, the teacher will provide high-quality specially designed instruction according to student IEPs, conduct observations for eligibility, develop strength-based and child-centered IEPs, lead IEP team meetings, and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines. Maintaining data, progress reports, and schedules for services, along with providing educational direction to paraprofessionals, are also critical. The position requires continuous professional growth, adherence to safety regulations, communicable disease control plans, ethical educator standards, and Oregon Administrative Rules for licensed educators. It is a full-time, 190-day contract position slated to begin in the 2026/2027 school year.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations.
  • Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens).
  • Be aware of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets.
  • Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.
  • Adhere to all Oregon Administrative Rules related to licensed educators.
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Provide high quality specially designed instruction to students according to student’s IEPs
  • Conduct observation and complete reports to determine eligibility in categories measured through response-to-intervention model
  • Develop IEPs that are strength-based as well as child centered for overall educational improvement
  • Lead IEP team meetings
  • Ensure IEPs and service delivery align with district, state, and federal guidelines
  • Maintain appropriate data collection and complete progress reports as frequently as progress is monitored in the general education setting
  • Maintain schedules for pull-out services for students and paraprofessionals
  • Provide educational direction to paraprofessionals for individual and small group instruction
  • Contribute productively to the school as a whole
  • Assignment may require travel between schools
