About The Position

The Cross-Categorical Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing individualized instruction for students with diverse learning, emotional, and behavioral needs. You will manage a self-contained or resource-based "hub" where the goal is to bridge the gap between a student's current abilities and the general education curriculum, focusing heavily on Life Skills, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and academic interventions.

Requirements

  • Adaptive Thinking: The ability to pivot a lesson in 30 seconds when you realize the sensory environment is overstimulating for a student.
  • Hyper-Organization: You’ll be tracking data for 8–12 students across dozens of different goals; your "data binder" game must be strong.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You aren't an island. You’ll be translating complex "Sped-speak" for general education teachers and parents.
  • Ability to lift or assist students (up to 50 lbs) as needed for physical support or safety.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care (toileting/feeding) if the unit serves students with significant physical or multiple disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • IEP Management: Develop, write, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring all goals are measurable, data-driven, and compliant with IDEA regulations.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Create multi-sensory lesson plans that accommodate various "categories" of disability (e.g., ADHD, Autism, SLD) within a single instructional block.
  • Behavioral Leadership: Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and implement Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). You are the "calm in the storm" during de-escalation moments.
  • Case Management: Coordinate "push-in" or "pull-out" services with Speech-Language Pathologists, OTs, and PTs to ensure a holistic approach to student growth.
  • Classroom Ecology: Manage and train Paraprofessionals to ensure the room runs like a well-oiled machine, even when you are pulled into a meeting.
