About The Position

Reporting to the Education Director (CSM), the Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction to children attending the Community School of Maryland. The Special Education Teacher is also responsible for the management, development and performance of Educational Instructors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and meet the state licensure requirements for Special Education Teacher.
  • The Teacher may be conditionally or provisionally licensed.
  • To maintain employment as a Teacher, Maryland State licensure must be kept current.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an instructional setting preferred.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, as well as good organizational and coordinative ability.
  • Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise patience, caring and concern in new and sometimes stressful situations.
  • Computer literacy required, with a proficiency in standard business software applications (i.e., word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets).
  • Maryland State teaching license.
  • Upon hire, will be trained in Medication Administration, Mandt, and CPR/First Aid
  • Employee must be able to effectively complete a non-adverse physical intervention with autistic individuals of varying heights, weights and levels of physical strength according to the guidelines presented in Behavioral Principles and Strategies training.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementation of each student’s Individualized Education Program.
  • The Special Education Teacher writes annual IEP goals and present levels and trains and monitors Educational Instructors in the implementation of IEP goals.
  • The Special Education Teacher also ensures that appropriate data is taken for each IEP goal.
  • Participates in weekly consultations with BCBA to monitor behavioral program implementation.
  • Oversees the administration of medication in the classroom and monitors the charting.
  • Maintains classroom data and records
  • Plans and implements daily classroom schedule.
  • Ensures implementation of behavioral program for each student, including collection of data.
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates Educational Instructors.
  • Confers with related service providers on student progress and concerns as needed
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians on student progress and concerns
  • Adheres to all CSAAC policies and procedures; applicable regulations of federal, state, and local laws; and The Council standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Education Director
  • Adheres to mandatory use of CIMS system to report health information, data and incidents for individuals supported in CSAAC program.
