About The Position

JOB GOAL: To enable identified students to derive the best possible educational experience from school through appropriate programming which is integrated into the community and school environment to the greatest extent possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid, current Nebraska teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education
  • Training and/or experience in special education teaching
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Skills in leadership, problem solving, collaboration, and conflict resolution
  • Skills in human relations, assessment and evaluations
  • Interpretive skills

Responsibilities

  • Consistent and punctual attendance
  • Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team for evaluating, planning and implementing relevant and purposeful curriculum and programs for identified students
  • Provides an individualized special education program for all identified students in their supervision in accordance with each student's IEP
  • Coordinates with building administrators, classroom teachers, and specialists to assure that the special education program is an integral part of the building's educational services
  • Participates in all school-related activities and meetings as expected of other teachers in the building
  • Ensures that accurate communication is maintained with parents or guardians to keep them informed of individual student progress and program goals
  • Updates Individualized Educational Programs in accordance with Rule 51. Abides by all rules and standards governing Special Education programs
  • Coordinates with itinerant staff (physical/occupational therapist, speech pathologist, etc.) to ensure consistent, functional, and integrated educational programming
  • Serves as an active member of multi-disciplinary teams, building level PLC teams, and district SPED teams
  • Keeps accurate attendance and progress records
  • Relates with staff, parents and community stakeholders through positive, professional collaboration
  • Suggests positive recommendations for the continuing review and development of curriculum
  • Remains current with professional development and shows evidence of regular professional growth
  • Assumes responsibility for conferences with parents
