Requirements

  • DESE license in Moderate Disabilities, Grades PK-8, or Severe Disablilities (All Levels)
  • SEI Teacher endoresment Required
  • Experience working with students who have significant intellectual impairments, experience with behavior management, as well as language and communication delays.
  • Candidate must be familiar with the TEACCH instructional model and implementing Functional Behavior Plans.
  • Teacher should be able to test for both cognitive and functional living skills.
  • Candidate must have experience with differentiated instruction, evaluating the skills of students with special needs, writing reports and IEPs, and compiling Alternate Assessment portfolios.
  • Familiarity with augmentative communication, assistive technology and sign language.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement entry level and access skill level curricula in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum frameworks.
  • Provide instruction in daily life and functional skills, travel training, community and leisure activities.
  • Assess students for three year re-evaluations.
  • Conduct annual team meetings in compliance with all state and federal regulations for timelines and relevant paperwork.
  • Act as liaison to outside agencies providing services to individual students.
  • Lifting and toileting may be required.
