About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will work under the general supervision of the School Principal to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs across grades K-12. This role involves implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, and addressing students' specific needs to provide a safe and optimal learning environment. The teacher will conduct assessments and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures to enhance learning outcomes. Additionally, the teacher will participate in planning and developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students, assist in implementing these plans, and coordinate with various stakeholders including parents and outside agencies.

Requirements

  • State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master's Degree in Special Education.
  • Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues.
  • Participate in PPTs and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Assist students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and institutions as needed.
  • Work with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
  • Provide counseling to students and parents to promote personal growth and behavioral management.
  • Maintain accurate and complete record-keeping for student information.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training in guidance.
  • Select and requisition appropriate educational materials and maintain inventory records.
