About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will work under the general supervision of the School Principal to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district-approved curriculum. The teacher will document teaching and student progress, address students' specific needs, and provide a safe and optimal learning environment.

Requirements

• State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Master's Degree in Special Education.
• Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
• Assist students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
• Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
• Work with administrators and other teaching staff to ascertain individual students' abilities and needs.
• Serve as a resource to students and parents to provide counseling for personal growth and behavioral management.
• Acquire professional knowledge and stay updated on current developments in the educational field.
• Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping and provide student information as required.
• Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication.
• Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training in guidance.
• Select and requisition appropriate books, aids, and supplies, and maintain inventory records.
