About The Position

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students in an Autism and Multiple Disabilities classroom, with a focus on 1:1 support for students who are blind or visually impaired. This role collaborates closely with the classroom teacher, licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired, and therapy staff to create a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters student independence and success.

Requirements

• Previous experience in special education or working with students with visual impairments preferred
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student development and independence

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) under teacher direction
• Provide 1:1 support to students who are blind or visually impaired
• Support classroom instruction and structured learning activities
• Apply behavioral support and reinforcement strategies
• Assist with communication development and social skill building
• Support safe mobility, navigation, and transitions throughout the school day
• Maintain a safe, organized, and structured classroom environment
• Document student participation, progress, and behavioral observations
• Collaborate with teachers, VI specialists, therapists, and support staff
• Work under the direction of a licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired
• Assist students with accessing instructional materials and classroom activities
• Support orientation, mobility, and participation in a classroom setting
• Provide individualized assistance tailored to visual and sensory needs
