Spring Branch Independent School District Job Description Special Education Teacher Assistant - Autism (APPLE) Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant - Autism (APPLE) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 203 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Assist students and teachers in the special education Autism program and general education classes. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification: Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification. Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills. Background related to working with children and parents. Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.). Fluent in English (speaking and writing). Knowledge regarding Autism preferred. Bus driver training as needed, or as required. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Instructional Support: Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures. Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel. Follow teacher instruction and guidance. Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills. Student Management: Assist in maintaining student records. Other: Participate in planned in-service and professional growth activities related to Autism and other topics. Perform other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer.
