Spring Branch Independent School District Job Description Special Education Teacher Assistant - Adaptive Behavior (AB) Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant - Adaptive Behavior (AB) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 203 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Assist students and teachers in the special education classes. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification: Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification. Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills. Background related to working with children and parents. Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.). Fluent in English (speaking and writing). Major Duties and Responsibilities: Instructional Support: Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures. Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel. Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment. Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills. Student Management: Assist in maintaining student records and audit folders. Assist in helping students in self-care activities such as feeding and toileting needs. Other: Participate in planned inservice and professional growth activities. Follow teacher instruction and guidance. Perform other duties as required and travel to sites if assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment. May require occasional extended hours.
