HBIC's non-public school (NPS) program and Adult Day Program (ADP) are intimate, yet highly active environments, with significant support from all facets of the program and non-profit 'parent' organization. Founded in 1967 by Cleta J. Harder and a group of caring volunteers, HBIC began its mission of 'Giving Hope' to individuals with disabilities and their families. The organization has evolved over the years, establishing the Cleta Harder Developmental School (CHDS) and the HBIC Adult Day Program (APD) at 'Emily's Place'. HBIC is dedicated to providing support to individuals with disabilities and their families throughout Southern California, while also consulting with families and professionals worldwide. The philosophy of HBIC is that all individuals have the right and ability to learn, recognizing the uniqueness of each person and their challenges in coping with societal demands.
