About The Position

A school is seeking a Special Education (SPED) Long-Term Substitute Teacher to provide instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities during an extended teacher absence. This role ensures continuity of learning while supporting students in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Education or related field preferred)
  • Valid substitute teaching license or teaching certification (SPED preferred, per state requirements)
  • Experience working with students with disabilities (learning, emotional, behavioral, or physical)
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to follow IEPs and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams

  • Knowledge of special education laws and compliance standards
  • Experience with behavior management strategies and differentiated instruction
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools
  • Patience, flexibility, and strong organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and state curriculum standards
  • Implement and monitor accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans
  • Maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Track, document, and report student progress toward IEP objectives
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, service providers, and administrators
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and parent communication as required
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, district policies, and special education documentation requirements
  • Adapt lesson plans and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and progress monitoring data
