About The Position

The Special Education Specialist collaborates with general and special education teachers, school administrators, and parents to provide educational support for students with disabilities. This role involves serving as a liaison between the campus and district, providing technical assistance to instructional staff, and mentoring teachers in implementing individualized education program (IEP) accommodations and modifications. The specialist also assists in designing behavioral and academic interventions, schedules staffings for student concerns, and acts as an administrative representative for IEP meetings when requested. Key responsibilities include organizing state assessment processes for special education students, monitoring STAAR-Alternative implementation, attending staff meetings, staying current on programming models for students with disabilities, and collecting student progress data. This position is grant-funded, meaning its continuation is dependent upon the ongoing availability of funding.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university
  • Certification in special education
  • Valid Texas Administrator's certification
  • Minimum of four (4) years of sucessfull experience as a classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, and cooperating with others

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with general and special education teachers, school administrators, and parents to provide educational support for students with disabilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the campus and district.
  • Provide technical assistance to instructional staff concerning the teaching/learning process.
  • Mentor teachers in implementing individual student accommodations and modifications as designed by IEP committees.
  • Collaborate with teachers and assistant principals in designing effective behavioral and academic interventions for students.
  • Schedule staffings to support and resolve student, teacher, or parental concerns.
  • Serve as an administrative representative for IEP meetings, as requested by the campus principal.
  • Assist with organizing the state assessment process for students receiving special education services.
  • Monitor progress of the implementation of the STAAR-Alternative.
  • Attend regularly scheduled special education staff meetings.
  • Keep abreast of current issues and methodologies on progamming models in educating students with disabilities.
  • Collect data on student progress and ensure data is reflectied in online data management system as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
