About The Position

The Special Education Secretary at Central Academy of Arts and Technology plays a key role in supporting the Special Education department by providing clerical and administrative assistance. Requirements

  • Knowledge in special education software SEIS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, terminology, and procedures is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Director of Special Education's calendar, scheduling meetings, IEPs (Individualized Education Program), and appointments.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, and correspondence related to special education meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of IEP documentation and ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Maintain and update confidential student records, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • File and organize IEP documents, evaluation reports, assessments, and other related materials.
  • Enter and track data in special education databases, including student information and case management software.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the Special Education department, responding to inquiries from parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Ensure accurate communication between families, teachers, and administrators regarding student services.
  • Provide reminders and notifications to staff about upcoming meetings and deadlines.
  • Assist in preparing reports for compliance audits and internal reviews of special education services.
  • Monitor timelines for IEPs, assessments, and re-evaluations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Support the department in preparing documents and forms for submission to district or state agencies.
  • Perform general office duties such as copying, filing, and answering phones.
  • Order supplies and materials for the Special Education department.
  • Assist in the coordination of special events, training, or workshops related to special education services.
