About The Position

The Special Education RISE BHP Ed Tech II/III position at Geiger Elementary School involves assisting the Special Education Teacher in delivering educational services as outlined in students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP). This role is part of the RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools. The position requires facilitating 1:1, 1:2, and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners throughout the school day, including during lunch, recess, and transitions. The Ed Tech is responsible for implementing IEPs and PBSPs, collecting data, and maintaining a structured environment for students.

Requirements

  • Three years of postsecondary education or 90 credit hours in a related area.
  • Certification as Education Technician III required by Maine DOE.
  • Certification as a School Based Behavioral Health Professional (BHP).
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical educational instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in 1:1, 1:2, and small group situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience in child care and/or education.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Willingness to advocate for inclusion of RISE students within the General Education setting.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate 1:1, 1:2, and small group instruction for complex learners.
  • Implement and follow Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSPs).
  • Assist with classroom setup and prepare materials for specialized instruction.
  • Collect relevant data and perform data entry.
  • Maintain bulletin boards and displays as requested.
  • Operate standard school equipment such as computers and audiovisual tools.
  • Follow the day-to-day schedule of students.
  • Maintain professional communication with team members and follow directions from Special Education Teacher and other staff.
