About The Position

The Special Education Aide for the RESET/ISET program is designed to support students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs. This role involves providing specialized and intensive academic and behavioral instruction in self-contained special education settings, with a focus on helping students develop skills necessary for transitioning into general education settings. The position requires working closely with students to meet their individual needs, including physical care and behavioral management, while also assisting teachers in instructional support and classroom maintenance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Texas Education Aide Certification Preferred
• Ability to work well with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written directives
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Two years experience working with children

Responsibilities

• Help meet the individual needs of students, including transferring them to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning them, and signing or interpreting instructions for them.
• Help students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
• Help manage the behavior of assigned students, intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed.
• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Work with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
• Assist assigned students throughout the school day, including during lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of assigned students.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Maintain confidentiality.

Benefits

• Hourly pay range minimum is $15.18; pay based upon experience
• Work 7.5 hours daily, normally work 187 days annually
